چکیده

In 1946 Kolthoff and Harris devised a method of titrating mercaptans in aqueous alcoholic solution with silver nitrate. They used a rotating platinum electrode with suitable current measuring equipment to locate the titration end-point. Benesch and Benesch (1948) applied this technique to the determination of sulphydryl groups in serum protein, and Weissman, Schoenbach, and Armistead (1950) used the same method in a study of the sulphydryl content of albumin and globulin fractions in Connecting Wire normal sera. Since variations in the sulphydryl concentration of the blood are of interest to workers in the field of rheumatic diseases and to those concerned with diabetes, it was considered that a relatively simple method of estimating blood " glutathione " might usefully be evolved from an amperometric titration procedure. This proved to be correct. A description of the apparatus, an account of the technique, and of the results obtained, are now presented.

The determination of glutathione in the presence of nitrite.

Studies on the possible r&e of reduced glutathione (GSH) in the conversion of the drugs nitroglycerin and erythritol tetranitrate to nitrites (1) and in the reduction of methemoglobin to hemoglobin (2) have led to the need for a method of determining GSH in the presence of nitrite. The common methods for GSH cannot be employed for this purpose because nitrite interferes with the analyses. This ...

AMPEROMETRIC MICROBIOSENSOR FOR THE DETERMINATION OF CHOLINE

The construction and performance of an amperometric microbiosensor for the determination of choline chloride by immobilizing choline oxidase on a cellulose acetate membrane are described. The procedure of choline determination involved the electrochemical detection of enzymatically generated hydrogen peroxide. This microsensor has a linear response between 0.038-0.1 mM choline chloride. The...

A convenient spectrophotometric assay for the determination of L-ergothioneine in blood.

1. A convenient spectrophotometric assay for the determination of l-ergothioneine in solution including deproteinized blood haemolysate was developed. 2. The method consists of deproteinization by heat precipitation and Cu(2+)-catalysed oxidation of thiols such as glutathione and of l-ascorbic acid, both in alkaline media, and titration of l-ergothioneine (which is not oxidized under these cond...
